<International Circulation>: You are making a presentation entitled “Weight Loss Influences on Arterial Hypertension: Myth or Reality?” What is the influence of anti-hypertensive drugs on the weight of obesity patients? Are there certain classes of drugs that are preferred and others that might exacerbate the obesity problem?
<International Circulation>: You have collaborated on some papers on the topic of central blood pressure. There is a debate here at the ESH with Bryan Williams and Stefan Laurent on central blood pressure being preferred over conventional measurement. Do you have an opinion?

Prof.Grassi: I am more in favor of Stefan Laurent’s position. Central blood pressure is something that may be useful and contributes information about cardiovascular risk but at the moment we don’t really know what would be the advantage of using central blood pressure particularly for monitoring the effects of anti-hypertensive treatment. In other words， we know that anti-hypertensive treatment lowers traditional blood pressure values but we are yet to discover what happens with central blood pressure values. This is something we will know in the future and it will also be important to understand whether a reduction in central blood pressure means an improvement in cardiovascular risk.

<International Circulation>: Are there differences between drugs that in the context of a clinical trial will show no differences when using standard brachial blood pressure measurement， but if measuring central blood pressure a difference in measurements is apparent? Do we know if that is significant?

Prof.Grassi: As I mentioned before， we still need to know what is the meaning， in terms of cardiovascular events， of a reduction in central blood pressure. We need to know if a clear reduction in central blood pressure means an improvement in cardiovascular risk and this is something that can only be addressed by an appropriate clinical trial.
